Who carries the Olympic torch?
In the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Torch Relay, torchbearers selected from 47 prefectures in Japan, who come from a variety of backgrounds and play different roles in society, will carry the torch, enjoying the invaluable experience in their own way.
Is the Olympic torch always lit?
And while this relay has been largely spectator-free, the flame’s destination remains the same: the Olympic cauldron, which stays lit for the duration of the Games. Over the decades, the torch’s appearance has become an important part of the custom.
Does the Olympic torch go around the world?
Until 2008, the flame usually travelled through several countries before arriving at its final destination. As from 2010, the Torch Relay has mainly taken place in Greece and the country of the host city, to where the flame is directly transported from Athens.
